Covid-19 Cleaning Guidelines for Care Homes 2021
COVID-19 Deep cleaning guidance in Care Homes
These guidelines are intended for both general cleaning and for disinfecting areas that have been exposed to a person who is ill with COVID-19. Areas in which a person with a confirmed COVID-19 infection has previously spent time need to be disinfected before resuming their use. These cleaning guidelines can also be applied in general cleaning to prevent the spread of communicable diseases and protect cleaning staff from infections.
Deep cleaning is a more enhanced programme of environmental cleaning, which compliments the routine daily cleaning in a care home. It includes the thorough cleaning of all surfaces, floors, soft furnishings and re-useable equipment either within the whole environment or in a particular area, e.g. resident’s room. The deep clean must only be performed by staff whom have been trained in the use of appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE), and in line with the current Public Health England (PHE) and national guidance.
